This is probably the finest example ..This is probably the finest example afloat of the classic Soverel 48. Built as a shallow-draft comfort-first cruiser for the Keys and the Bahamas, the Soveral 48 turned out to be a successful racer; certainly we had 11 knots on the GPS coming out of Cartagena down to San Blas this June aafter a complete refit at one of the fine yards there. 'Pleides' is stiff as a church to sail and her jib and genoa allow her to point well up into the wind. Her refit incluudes a stainless steel stem-to-stern rail and a fibreglass coachhouse which makes the cockpit safe and comfortable in the sun and the rain. The refit saw her solidly-built hull completely scraped and painted, the masts re-stepped, the two heads replaced and a fine freezer/frig installed. Three solar panels are fitted atop the coachroof maintaining a solid bank of deepcycle batteries. The aft cabin in palatial and, like the focsle cabin, has its own complete bathroom. The Yanmar 105 has only 700 hours on the clock. Pleides is berthed at the Bocas del Toro Marina, Panama.
Full inventory available. A feature of the refit earlier this year in Cartagena was the improvement to the dinghy davits over the stern. the self-steering is only just adequate and should be replaced. The North genoa is entirely new, completing a full set of fine sails. The cockpit sole was completely replaced as were the toe-rails and other woodwork with fine teak. Sale price reflects forced sale for owner's health reasons.
